Old Grange Road

This is truly a shepherds warning!

Call Mr Robin, tell him to hurry..

Everyone’s anxious and in such a flurry.

Whoo can help us, asked the wise Owl?

There is trouble a brewing if it’s my tree they fell!

Where is Badger, with his family of three?

I’m afraid they will have to pack up and flee…

Have you seen Prickels and her hoglets jolly?

Oh..Mr Robin, they were killed by the lorry.

Come, let us gather and start writing our ode

To all the lost creatures behind old Grange Road.

Come on Pheasant make yourself handy,

You cant help us lot, feathered up like dandy.

The Dormouse is scared , and lets out a squeal

”If I have to go, the Hawk looses his meal!”

Here come the Kites, the Herons, the Frogs

The Rabbits, the Ravens, the odd mangy Dog

Here come the Blue Tits, the Finches and Crows,

If Hedges could march they would march out in rows,

Bees, Ants, Spiders and Butterflies too

Are all crying out what are we to do!!

The bulldozers are coming, like death in the night,

Bringing men, cement and bricks to the fight.

We cannot win, We have no voice

We will never ever be given a choice

But we can …we can make a different stand.

And move afar to a distant land.

The Song Thrush sang Red Sky in the Morning

This is truly a shepherds warning!

We will simply take with us the fields life and soul

From the tiny Bugs to the burrowing Mole

From the Pigeons and Magpies

To all Birds in the skies

You wont ever see our little critter tracks

The pond will dry and water turn brack

We will take with us the Great Dawn Chorus

And then, only then, will you perhaps mourn us?

So,Come all friends let us gather, and start writing our ode

To all the lost creatures behind old Grange Road
